- Case Number: 22625
An Air Force servicemember seeks pro bono assistance with a consumer law issue. The Airman made an agreement with a bank to voluntarily repossess his car, sell it, and then he would be responsible to the bank for the remaining balance after sale. The Airman made multiple attempts to contact the bank to make payments, but the bank never helped him set up an account to do so. The bank then sold his accounts to a collection agency without his permission. He then again tried to contact the bank to no avail. Thereafter, while in basic training, he received a summons for over $20,000. He agreed to make payments to the collection agency because he was in basic training and felt he had no other choice. He seeks assistance to avoid a judgment against him that could affect his security clearance.
