Wyandotte County, KS: Soldier seeks pro bono help with landlord-tenant claim involving mold exposure

- Location: Wyandotte County
- Organization: ABA Military Pro Bono Project (Kansas)
- Case Number: 22670
A Navy servicemember seeks pro bono assistance with a landlord-tenant claim and possibly a tort claim. The Sailor and his family lived in housing that exposed them to toxic mold, lead, and carbon monoxide, which caused major long-term health issues. In addition to health care costs, the family had to discard household items valued at $75,000. The Sailor has tried to address his severe health conditions with military doctors and hospitals, but he believes they failed to provide a correct diagnosis and treatments for his long-term conditions, despite civilian doctors’ diagnoses of toxic mold exposure. He would like to pursue a claim against the landlord for damages, and potentially the military for malpractice.
