- Organization: ABA Military Pro Bono Project (Nevada)
- Case Number: 22752
A Coast Guardsman stationed abroad seeks pro bono help with an issue involving his mortgage holder and HOA, and implicating the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). The Coast Guardsman purchased a home last year. At the time of purchase, he was not given any information on HOA fees, and it is believed that the HOA bylaws are not registered with the state. He was soon after deployed, and the HOA hired a debt collection agency, which sent allegedly notices about past due fees to his home. The residents of his home did not receive these notices, until the final notice. Upon learning of the fees due, he promptly paid the HOA’s accounting company the amount due, but his mortgage holder was then notified about a lien on his home. The servicemember seeks pro bono help to pursue the proper remedy.
