A Navy servicemember seeks pro bono assistance to seek an emergency custody order over her children. The sailor was deployed overseas last year, and the father of her children cared for the children while she was overseas. Before her deployment, she was the primary caregiver for the children. Due to concerns for the safety of her children living with their father because of his drug use and history of domestic abuse, the sailor has a pro bono attorney assisting her in Nevada where the children lived. The children are now with the sailor for the summer, but she needs an emergency custody order because of child abuse by the father, in which the police have gotten involved. The children are scheduled to go back to live with their dad at the end of the summer, which would put them in danger, and the children’s physicians and therapists are concerned about them returning to live with the father.
