In October, the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) announced the launch of the Legal Network for Gender Equity in response to increasing threats to women’s rights. The Legal Network for Gender Equity has recruited more than 500 attorneys from across the country who stand ready to provide an initial free legal consultation and, when appropriate, represent women and girls who experience sex discrimination on the job, at school, and in the health care system. The Legal Network for Gender Equity will help those facing sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination connect with the legal resources and information they need to fight back.

The Network is looking to address the representation needs of military members and veterans, and would like to include attorneys with background handling issues arising in a military context.

Furthermore, NWLC will be housing and administering the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund. The Fund—which was spearheaded by members of the entertainment industry, attorneys Tina Tchen and Roberta Kaplan, and top public relations professionals—will help individuals who face workplace sexual harassment and related retaliation, including defamation, connect with legal representation and public relations assistance. The Fund will increase the reach and effectiveness of the Legal Network for Gender Equity to enable more individuals to come forward and connect with attorneys to address workplace sexual harassment. In addition, the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund will provide financial support in select workplace sexual harassment and sexual harassment-related retaliation cases that NWLC identifies through the Legal Network for Gender Equity. To apply for funding, please view the instructions.
