Marine Obtains Favorable Settlement Against Car Insurance Company with Help of Volunteer Attorney

A young Marine purchased a used vehicle and obtained car insurance with his father’s help shortly thereafter. However, the Marine noticed that the insurance card did not include his name, so he tried to work with the company to correct this. Before this problem was corrected, the Marine was in a car accident and his car was totaled. He filed a claim with the insurance company, but it was denied. The Marine struggled financially to continue to pay the loan for the vehicle while not having access to his vehicle. He visited his legal assistance office for help.
The legal assistance office referred the Marine’s case to the ABA Military Pro Bono Project, which placed his case with an experienced pro bono attorney. The volunteer attorney began litigation, and ultimately obtained a settlement against the insurance company to the benefit of the Marine.
